Your geriatric education resource
GEC/PA provides a variety of education and training programs for
health care professionals who serve the elderly. GEC/PA strives
to improve geriatric training for health professionals by providing
opportunities for geriatric residencies, fellowships, continuing
education, and clinical geriatrics training in nursing homes, chronic
and acute care hospitals, and other geriatric care facilities. In
collaboration with the University
of Pittsburgh Institute on Aging, the Temple
University Institute on Aging, and the Penn
State University Gerontology Center, the center also acts as
a statewide clearinghouse for aging-related activities by promoting
seminars, publishing articles of interest, and identifying relevant
materials for geriatric education.
Current GEC/PA activities include instruction on leading Healthy
People 2010 indicators via distance learning technologies; education
concerning diseases disproportionately affecting older women; continuing
education in interdisciplinary geriatrics through community and
collaborative partnerships; and a recruitment plan for improving
diversity among faculty and participants in education and training
programs. Learn more about GEC/PA offerings by visiting the web
sites of the University
of Pittsburgh Institute on Aging, the Temple
University Institute on Aging, and the Penn
State University Gerontology Center.
